(“SoftBank”) today announced the successful completion of a joint Proof of Concept (PoC) that utilized an Ising machine, a type of quantum computing technology, to automatically adjust mobile phone base station parameters. The PoC demonstrated an approximately 10% improvement in downlink data communication speeds without the need for additional hardware.Jij specializes in solving critical societal and industrial challenges by leveraging its dual expertise in "quantum computers" and "mathematical optimization." In this initiative, Jij developed a mathematical model to represent the distribution of areas where carrier aggregation—a method that bundles multiple frequency bands to enhance communication speed—can be utilized, based on radio signal conditions from multiple base stations, using mathematical optimization to rapidly calculate the optimal settings.The verification was conducted in select areas within Tokyo. The results showed approximately 10% increase in downlink data communication speeds in the carrier aggregation domain.
